Het Leather Working Group keurmerk: wat houdt het in? Het Leather Working Group keurmerk: wat houdt het in?

At De Lederwaren Ambacht, everything revolves around craftsmanship, quality, and responsible production. That's why we're proud to announce that our new belt collection is made from leather certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG) .

What exactly does that mean? And why is it so special? In this blog post, you'll read all about this quality mark and why it makes a difference – for you, the environment, and the people behind the product.

What is the Leather Working Group quality mark?

The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an international organization committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly leather production. Founded in 2005, they have developed a globally recognized standard for assessing tanneries' environmental performance.

✔️ Strict controls – Tanneries are assessed on aspects such as water and energy consumption, wastewater treatment, chemical use, working conditions, and traceability.

✔️ Transparency – The quality mark is independent and globally recognized. Only those who meet strict standards may carry the LWG quality mark.

✔️ Multiple levels – The quality mark has gradations (Gold, Silver, Bronze), depending on how high a tannery scores on sustainability criteria.

In other words: only the best and most responsible producers are considered.

Why is this important?

The leather industry has been under pressure for years due to its impact on the environment and people. LWG is trying to change this – not with fancy words, but with measurable actions:

  • Less water and energy consumption

  • Safe processing of chemicals and waste materials

  • More transparency in the chain – from farm to end product

  • Better monitoring of working conditions

All of this ensures cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable leather production. And that's desperately needed in a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly important.

What makes our belts so unique?

Our new belt collection is made of high-quality leather sourced from LWG-certified tanneries. This means:

  • Sustainable origin – You wear a belt that has less impact on the environment.

  • Honest craftsmanship – We only work with partners who have their production process in order.

  • Longer life – Because the leather is of top quality, your belt will remain beautiful for years to come.

Each belt is carefully designed and handcrafted – but thanks to the LWG quality mark, you can now also say with confidence that you are making a conscious choice .

Why do customers consciously choose this?

More and more people value sustainability and transparency . They want to know:

  • Where does this product come from?

  • How is it made?
