Shorten your belt yourself? It's easy with our screw system.
Found a beautiful leather belt, but it's just a tad too long? Don't worry – at De Lederwaren Ambacht, many of our belts feature a handy screw system , allowing you to easily adjust the length yourself. No special tools or a trip to the cobbler required. In this blog post, we'll explain how to do it step by step.
Why an adjustable belt?
Belts are often made in standard lengths, while every waist is unique. The beauty of our screw system is that you can adjust the belt to size yourself. This ensures a perfect fit, without excess leather or untidy creases. And best of all: you retain the belt's neat, original appearance.
How to shorten your belt – step by step
1. Unscrew the screw
On the inside of the belt, near the buckle, there's a small screw. Use a screwdriver to loosen it. The buckle will now come loose from the leather.
2. Measure your waist and determine the correct length
Pull the belt around your waist and determine the desired length. Then trim off any excess leather with sturdy scissors or a sharp knife. Always do this on the buckle side (not near the holes).
3. Make a new hole for the screw
Use the cut piece of leather as a template: place it on the cut strap and mark where the screw hole should be. Then make a new hole with an awl, drill, or screwdriver.
4. Screw the buckle back on
Replace the buckle on the shortened belt and tighten the screw firmly. Done! Your belt is now the perfect fit.
Handy, fast and stylish
With this method, you don't have to part with a beautiful belt that's just a tad too long. You save time, money, and maintain the neat finish. Our belts are carefully designed, and thanks to the clever screw system, you can easily contribute to that yourself.
